Missouri swimming teams take first at Mizzou Invitational

COLUMBIA — The Missouri men’s and women’s swim teams finished in first place Sunday after the final day of the Mizzou Invitational.

“I was very pleased with the team, athletes, and their attitudes. It’s just awesome,” said associate head coach Roric Fink.

The men’s team won with a total of 1,380 points, beating Drury (1,097), Missouri S&T (588) and Truman State (332).

The women’s team won with a total of 1,241, beating Boise State (880), Nebraska (710), Drury (534), Truman State (253) and Colorado State (52).

Not only did Missouri come in first, but it broke a number of records as well.

Sophomore Dominique Bouchard beat her personal record today in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:52.35. Sophomore Amanda Masters beat her personal record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.30. Junior John Higgins beat his personal record during the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:47.03

Bouchard also set a personal record in the 100-yard backstroke on Saturday.

“I was really happy because I wasn’t expecting it. I am just really happy with the two that I got,” Bouchard said.

Junior Jowan Qupty set a meet record during the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:59.56, and senior Melissa Jamerson set a new meet record during the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:00.68.

Although the Missouri swim team does not have another meet until January 15, when it faces Minnesota, the Tigers aren’t going to be taking a break.

According to sophomore Sasha Menu Courey, the Christmas break is the hardest training time of the year.

“We just try to reach the next level before tapering before conference,” said Fink.
